Single Woman of the Week - Condoleezza Rice

Starting a new weekly series – my favorite single woman of the week. The series is to highlight what I admire about her and how her life influences mine.

Condoleezza Rice had the envious job of traveling the world and bringing countries together through diplomacy. She interacted with heads of states as she represented the United States. Most men loved her iron fist in a velvet glove approach, showing that you can be strong and feminine as secretary of state. What I most admire about her is that she is a NMNC (never married no children) woman who lives life to the fullest (a lot of people don’t realize that she is accomplished pianist).

Many don’t agree with her politics but she remains steadfast with her beliefs which some women are afraid to do because of fear of being unpopular. She has a new memoir coming out soon where she gets candid about her days in Bush’s administration. It is getting buzz already which isn’t surprising especially since George W. Bush is one of our most controversial presidents.

Her life makes me want to travel more, learn about different cultures, and discover the other side of me that traveling brings to the surface. Being married with children makes it difficult to venture around the world unless you have a lot of money and time. Traveling is one of the advantages of being single. Yet, some women put that hold until they get married. But, they may discover that their new husband may prefer staying home. Regardless if you are married or single, there are different women’s travel groups that are available if you are afraid to travel alone. I’m used to traveling alone especially with my previous job. I learned new skills and I was proud that I got from here to there without getting extremely lost. You learn to fight through the loneliness, make new friends, eat amazing food, and see natural beauty that leaves you speechless. Like when I went to New Zealand and got to walk on black sand beaches.

Be bold like Condi whether is traveling, wearing the color red (her power color), going after that promotion or learning something new like the piano. Don’t put your life on hold because you are single. I know I won’t.
